Job Position: Accountant
Job Location: Lagos
Job Description
- The Accountant carries out accounting activities, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies and external audits.
- He/she manages the accounts payable function, payroll function, monthly closing of accounts and preparation of reports in support of the financial statements.
Job Responsibilities
- Professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.
- Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation.
- Consolidate and interpret financial data from various profit and cost centres (Outlets & subsidiaries) to ensure accurate and timely business information is presented to the management to assist them in decision making.
- Develop and control a centralized accounting system to ensure that accounts are effectively managed
- Produce an operating profit and loss account and balance sheet to produce accurate and timely financial information which meets regulatory and business requirements.
- Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
- Continued focus on improving system efficiencies and business practices.
- Participate in strategic financial projects including upgrades/phase-two implementation of ERP software
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance
- Interact at all levels and with budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end close and all internal management and financial reporting through annual report
- Responsible for hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements and has ultimate authority over classification and booking of all transactions
- Analyze the effect of statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed and establishes the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud
- Prepare detailed journal entries and account analyses
- Assist with compilation of information for preparation of tax returns
- Work with Audit, Tax and Treasury Officer to ensure overall coordination of all financial accounting activities through annual report.
- Prepare summary feedback of financial statements variances to budget.
- Actively review and advise on financial/accounting processes.
- Monitor expenditure against budgets and advise Management on any significant variances.
- Prepare year-end accounting and taxation reports to ensure that the company complies with legal and business requirements.
- Prepare the annual budget to for the company and ensure that individual profit and cost centres (Outlets & subsidiaries) have all necessary information for effective budget management.
- Oversee the preparation of statistical returns and financial analysis on a range of topics for internal and external use.
- Oversee the administration of any loans and repayments, including maintaining liaison with brokers and lenders
- Prepare and monitor cash flow projections and associated records to determine the optimum use of funds or the need to raise additional revenue.
- Provide any required advice and guidance on payroll matters to Management and staff.
- Oversee the timely and accurate submission of all statutory returns to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other government departments.

- Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience.
