Role Overview
- A Civil Engineer plays a vital role in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the physical infrastructure and facilities within an educational institution.
- They ensure that the school’s buildings and grounds are safe, functional, and conducive to the learning environment.
- Requires a combination of engineering expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and efficient educational environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with school administrators and stakeholders to assess the school’s infrastructure needs.
- Design and Construction (this element will only be partly required in the first 2 years)
- Develop long-term infrastructure plans to accommodate the school’s growth and changing requirements.
- Oversee the construction process, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations. Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- Prepare architectural and engineering designs for new construction or renovation projects.
- Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other professionals involved in construction projects.
- Conduct regular inspections of school buildings, grounds, and utilities to identify maintenance and repair needs.
Qualification, Experience and Knowledge
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience in new facility handover from contractor to client and phased building projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working in an educational or similar environment.
- Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- The ability to understand, translate, and communicate complex building and building services drawings.
- The ability to think both strategically and pragmatically with strong problem-solving skills
- A good understanding of quality control
- CAD design skills.
