Head of Boys Boarding House

Job Summary-

Principal Duties & Responsibility


  • Deploy, train and develop all boarding staff to make the most effective use of their skills, expertise and experience and to ensure that all boarding staff have a clear understanding of their roles, duties and responsibilities
  • Oversee, in conjunction with the Deputy Head of Boarding, the training of Boarding Prefects to ensure consistency across the boarding houses
  • Be familiar with, and develop further, a working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Children Act, Child Protection Act, Human Rights Act, Health & Safety at Work Act and the legal rights of children
  • Ensuring a visible and active presence in the boarding houses in order to develop a relationship with all boarders
  • Keep the Vice Principal (Pastoral/Student Affairs) and other appropriate staff, informed of pastoral issues relating to any student in the boarding houses and manage these where appropriate
  • Inform and consult with the Vice Principal (Pastoral/Student Affairs) serious cases of student breaches of discipline or good conduct, and maintain a record of punishments awarded
  • Ensure that medical matters are dealt with appropriately in line with School’s Medical Protocol and Practices, liaising with the School Clinic, the Sports Department and the pupils’ parents and guardians as appropriate
  • Ensure that all appropriate registration/attendance/absence records are kept for all boarders including signing in and out of the hostels, clear whereabouts of boarders during weekends
  • In conjunction with the boarding team arrange, organize and participate in the programme of activities, trips, social events and weekends activities which play a key role in ensuring a very special boarding experience for the students
  • Liaise with the housekeeper, laundry supervisor in all matters relating to the maintenance of the hostels and students uniforms
  • Presents the interest and needs of the boarding houses to the Core Leadership Team (CLT), through the Vice-Principal (Pastoral/Student Affairs), and play a leading advisory role in the long-term development of boarding houses

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Competencies

Education and Work Experience

  • First degree in any discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a related field.
