Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.
PUI has been implementing humanitarian activities in Nigeria since April 2016, supporting population with food security, nutrition, health and protection project in Maiduguri and Borno State.
We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:
1.) Pharmacist
Job Location: Mashi, Katsina
Employment Type: Full-time
Responsibilities
Data Collection, Treatment and Analysis:
- Monthly supervise the data collection (in / out, consumption) of bases and Health Centres and their data entry
- Ensure delivery of drugs and supplies to various sites/ facilities and appropriate use of the management document (inventory records, delivery notes, computer tools etc.)
- Ensure first aid kits/pep kits are refilled
- Be able to provide at any given time reliable information on stock, consumption, use of medicines and health products for each project
Supply Management of Bases Health Facilities:
- Collaborate with the supply chain department to ensure the good delivery and receipt of goods and the quality control of drugs received
- Inform logistics and medical services in the event of non-compliance
- Participate in the preparation, distribution, planning, transport and delivery from central stock to bases
- Inform in advance and work with logistics department for the organization of transport of drugs to bases
Stocks Management:
- Participate in the monthly physical inventory and conduct random checking. In case of discrepancies between physical inventory and theoretical stock, investigate and inform the Mission Pharmacist
- Ensure a proper storage (especially conditions of temperature, humidity, light and safety), order (storage, classification, labelling) and secure (key access) according to the PUI Pharmacy procedures
- Supervise the stock management of particular pharmacies (vehicles, first aid kits, etc..).
- Inform the Mission Pharmacist in case of irrational consumption
- Ensure that expired or damaged items are properly collected from the bases and put in quarantine
- Ensure that storage conditions are in line with national legislation, in particular for narcotic and psychoactive drugs
- Monitor stock management of the bases pharmacies and health facilities (in collaboration with project managers)
- Ensure the understanding and application of pharmaceutical storage procedures and tools used at the base level and health facilities supported
- Participate in the preparation of donations / loans / exchanges with the Mission Pharmacist
Capacity Building and Training:
- Participate in the training and technical support to the Base Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy Assistants, and the staff in charge of pharmacies at PHCC and ORPs: stock management, rational use, substitution, analysis of consumption of health facilities
- Train all staff working in the pharmacy aspect on rational use of drugs and proper Pharmaceutical waste management
- Strengthen the capacity of health facilities teams, so that they can assume their duties independently and can be critical in terms of consumption
Salary
N469,000 per month.
2.) Outpatient Department (OPD) Nurse
Job Location: Mashi / Kufi - Katsina
Employment Type: Full-time
Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:
- Ensure and conduct the medical consultations with full history taking, clinical examination and provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment accordingly following the protocols and universal precautions
- Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment
- Execute any action requested by the PM, DPM or Medical Coordinator as part of the outbreak response plan
- Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team
- Record on a readable manner the health status and medical prescription
- Participate in the follow-up of the waste management according to the waste management procedures
- Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
- Request for a 2nd evaluation of the patient when needed
- Provide individual health promotion during consultations
- Delegate the treatment cares(distribution of drugs, injections, dressings…) to Nurse assistant
- Manage and report any suspected communicable disease case according to Premiere Urgence Internationale’s protocols and national Disease Surveillance guidelines
- Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey according to the needs and as directed.
- Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state.
Management of an Efficient Referral System:
- Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, appointment with specialists, laboratory tests etc. in collaboration with OPT supervisor
- Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
- Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
- Identify and refer patients who need mental health consultation
Medical Data Collection and Reporting:
- Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book
- Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data
- Participate to the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration with OPT supervisor and the deputy program manager
- Ensure an oral hand over at every team change over, draw attention to any notable events during the shift
- Participate actively in the early warning system and the outbreak response plan
- Collect general information about the people living conditions
- Participate to the assessment of health needs
- Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery / damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue.
- Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs.
Internal and External Representation:
- Participate in any training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing cares and duties
- Participate actively in meetings when required
Salary
N312,000 monthly.
3.) Health & Nutrition Supervisor
Job Location: Mashi, Katsina
Employment Type: Full-time
Responsibilities and Task
Monitoring and Supervision:
- Ensure consultations and nursing duties organization, including triage, dressings, injections, and distribution of drugs according to nurses’ protocols, precautions, hygiene standards, and clinicians’ prescriptions.
- Plan, organize and ensure the implementation of all sexual and reproductive health activities including ANC, PNC, Family planning, delivery, vaccination, and laboratory.
- Verify on daily basis in that the consultation rooms are provided with necessary equipment and consumables.
- Ensure the SGBV survivors are handled with confidentiality and the record properly secured as designed by PUI
- Verify on a daily basis that the consultation rooms are provided with necessary equipment and consumables.
- Ensure that newborn babies are correctly monitored from delivery to discharge and that all pregnant women and new-borns are referred to the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI
- Provide technical support to the SRH staff for to diagnoses and manage cases.
- Assist Midwives in the management of the referral cases.
- Assist the staffs during certain health care acts if necessary
- Evaluate the quality of consultations by assessing midwives and midwife assistants once-twice a month
- Provide technical support to the clinician for diagnoses and management cases.
- Assist the clinicians in the management of the referral cases.
- Ensure that health education according to the protocols and key messages are well provided.
- Evaluate the quality of consultations by assessing clinicians once or twice/month.
- Propose any implementation of medical protocols, update it if necessary, and ensure that the medical staff follow it.
- Monitor the rational use of medicines and the proper administration of treatments in step with national international protocols.
- Ensure smooth implementation and integration of services among the health team and other PUI sector team (MHPSS, Nutrition, food security, protection).
Drugs and medical equipment:
- Ensure that PHC is properly supplied with materials and drugs.
- Prepare drugs and materials requests in collaboration with the team, DPM and SRH supervisor.
- Ensure that expiry dates of drugs are checked.
- Ensure that drugs and materials storage respect standard rules (hygiene, notification, stock cards…)
- Ensure that the medical material is clean and sterilized.
Team Management:
- Plan Monthly schedule for the OPD and SRH team member with DPM and PHC In charge, and follow up.
- Manage staff timetable, annual leaves, and attendance sheets.
- Organize team work regarding team capacity in order to cover all PHC needs.
- Ensure the respect of Première Urgence Internationale rules and inform the DPM of any disrespect of the rules.
- Participate in the regular evaluation of medical staff in collaboration with the DPM.
- Ensure that all administrative procedures and documents (individual patient cards and registration book, referral form, death report from etc.) and existing data management tools are used correctly.
- Schedule regular meetings with OPD and SRH staff to communicate updates and raise challenges encountered by the team.
- Ensure that all patients are treated equally with respect of ethical and confidential issues and Première Urgence Internationale Charter
- Organize and monitor the waste management according to the waste management procedures
- Ensure that the work place is clean.
- Support the OPD and SRH teams in its daily work.
- Work in close collaboration with the deputy health program manager and report all his/her activities, observations and needs
- Debrief any new PUI or MOH staff of the PHC system and regulations.
Medical Data Collection and Reporting:
- Supervise the data collection:
- Medical prescription (readable, dated and signed);
- Epidemiological data;
- Drugs and medical materials consumption;
- General information about the people living conditions;
- Ensure the archiving the documents, tools and training materials in the context of project/s and ensures the availability of the verification sources mentioned in the proposals.
Trainings:
- Ensure training of the medical team in collaboration with DPM
- Ensure training of awareness team in collaboration with HPM
- Assess the training needs of the staff
- Assess the level of knowledge after the trainings
Other Duties:
- Be the focal point in the PHC with external partners. Explain how the PHC works, difficulties faced, and strengths.
- Ensure verbal and written hand over at every duty shift to the team and emphasize on specific events.
- Translates documents and/or interprets conversation when necessary.
- Comply with PUI security procedures at all times.
- Remain aware of the security situation in office and clinic locations at all times and provide feedback to the health program manager.
- Participate actively in meetings as required.
- Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey, etc. according to the needs
- Report to the DPM/PM any problem in the clinic especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue
- Be available for any emergency.
Qualifications
- Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of experience.
Salary
N468,000 Month.
