Position Overview
- We are seeking a diligent and proactive Safety Officer to join our team.
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and hazard-free environment on project sites.
- This role involves continuous site inspections, assessment and approval of safety plans, emergency response planning, and promoting a culture of safety.
- The Safety Officer will also manage all communications with government regulators regarding safety issues and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuous Inspection: Regularly inspect project sites to ensure a hazard-free environment.
- Safety Plan Assessment: Assess and approve contractors' and subcontractors' safety plans.
- Emergency Drills: Conduct drills and exercises on managing emergencies.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents and accidents, and prepare detailed reports on findings.
- Compliance Reporting: Ensure all safety reports are submitted to relevant government institutions.
- Worker Safety Concerns: Respond to workers’ safety concerns promptly and effectively.
- Equipment Verification: Verify the quality and safety of on-site tools and equipment.
- Safety Promotion: Promote and enforce safe practices on-site.
- Safety Guidelines: Create and enforce safety guidelines and programs.
- Government Communication: Manage all communications with government regulators regarding safety.
- Site Safety Evaluation: Manage site safety evaluations and identify potential risks.
- Hazardous Materials Management: Coordinate all issues regarding hazardous materials or waste.
- Safety Plan Preparation: Assist with the preparation of construction health and safety plans.
- Planning Meetings: Attend project planning meetings and collaborate with site engineers.
- Health and Safety Communication: Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures.
- Emergency Response Testing: Test the effectiveness of site emergency response plans.
- Document Monitoring: Continuously monitor all safety-related documents, reports, and issues to keep them updated.
Qualifications
- Minimum of HND in related Engineering disciplines.
- Minimum of 5 years in relevant industries such as construction, power, or other related sectors.
- Professional certification in safety management or related field will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in safety management and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessment, and emergency response.
Requirements:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
- Ability to lead a team and promote a culture of safety.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and proactive in identifying and addressing safety issues.
- Strong observational skills and the ability to work independently.
