We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Venture Analyst Intern / Accountant

Job Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Senior Accountant

Main Function


  • Ensure the timely processing of financial documents in line with the organization’s financial policies and procedures.
  • Also focus on supporting the fund’s investment activities in the retail and financial services industries, working closely with and as an integral part of a collaborative team of venture professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process bank transactions regarding documents of inward and outward remittances, bank reconciliation etc.
  • Assist in Performing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities related to cash management and tax, including preparing the appropriate audit work papers for such activities
  • Assist in Preparing quarterly and annual budget for the organization
  • Ensure transactions, supporting schedules and accounting papers for policies and conventions are maintained in accordance with FIRS
  • Assisting the partners and investment-team in the deal-flow processes up to the negotiations with potential portfolio companies.
  • Take care of the valuation and analysis of potential investment cases as well as related market-, industry- and technology deep-dives
  • Research and analyse market and industry trends to identify the best early stage companies and founding teams
  • Operative support to portfolio companies in online marketing, company building, business development and sales
  • Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports
  • Assist in Analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses
  • Receive and process all vendor invoices for payments, verify all invoices as per finance policies
  • Prepare payment analysis for all expenses and report any abnormal variances to the Senior Accountant
  • Create investment proposals and presentations for internal and external use
  • Involvement in all aspects of due diligence on new investments (business analysis, industry thesis, sourcing investments, competitive landscape, business/pricing model, and financial modelling / deal structuring).
  • Reading/reviewing business plans and pitch decks.
  • Maintain records of organization's financial activity
  • Assist in developing reports on financial performance for internal and external use
  • Assist in Preparing bank accounts and balance sheet accounts monthly reconciliation/schedules
  • Ensure all payments are made on time with no penalties
  • Assist in Preparing and maintaining record of all financial contracts and transactions
  • Highlight any system or procedural issues that may impede the reconciliation/reporting process
  • Continuously improve financial accounting integrity and efficiency through the review of existing policies, procedures and controls as required
  • Perform other duties as maybe required.

Experience / Qualification

  • Minimum of B.Sc in Accounting or its equivalent.
  • 2 Years of Accounting/Analyst experience
  • Any work experience that demonstrates the drive, skills and character required to be successful in a demanding, entrepreneurial and dynamic work environment.
  • Professional qualification is an added advantage.

Functional Competencies:

  • Experience in the use of Accounting Software
  • High level of proficiency in the use of spreadsheets
  • Understanding of digital business-models combined with the analytical skill-set for data-based evaluation
  • Interest in high-growth startups, venture capital and private-equity or in other fast-paced environments within investment banking, strategy-consulting or later stage
  • Good understanding of product specifications and user psychology.
  • Basic understanding of financial modelling and accounting
