Job Description
- Our client is looking to recruit for the role of Head of Safety, whose jocis to ensure the organization’s compliance with best-in-class Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards through the design, implementation and operationalization of appropriate standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Articulate and implement the annual plan and budget ensuring alignment with the overall manufacturing function mandate and the business' overarching safety and environmental policy.
- Enforce full adherence, execution, and management strategies to prevent workplace injuries, and environmental incidences and achieve annual targets set by management for Occupational health & safety management performance.
- To design, implement and communicate the Occupational Health & Safety management system to meet OHSAS ISO 45001: 2018 requirement, ISO 14001:2015 requirements and all other regulatory documentation.
- To supervise the plant’s Health and safety program. Facilitate internal audits of the safety management systems.
- Drive the safety drills to ensure ascertain readiness in case of emergencies.
- To promote Occupational health & Safety management practice to ensure staff compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- To prioritise and provide advice promptly on OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Advice on Occupational health & safety management trends and indicators to guide informed business decisions.
- Develop programs and plans to achieve OHS objectives.
- Investigate all accidents and damage to Plant property, identify root causes and recommend actions to prevent re-occurrence.
- To conduct routine drills to test Emergency preparedness for all likely emergency scenarios.
- To liaise with external bodies on Safety matters for support and collaboration and to keep abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Drive the identification of safety training needs, provide information, and ensure employee training on a regular basis to improve knowledge about Safety matters.
- Advise management on the implications of current and emerging safety legislations, including evaluation options, making recommendations, and generating action plans to ensure compliance.
- To review all safety rules on a regular basis and, where necessary, recommend suitable changes.
- To maintain accident records and other safety documentation for prevention.
- To provide first aid facilities and ensure that first Aid replaceable kits are up to date, available and accessible. Also, to conduct routine inspection of first aid kits and facilities.
- Provide and maintain walkways and ensure that vehicle and pedestrian walkways are not obstructed. To provide and maintain clearly marked muster and fire assembly points and ensure that they are always free of obstruction.
- To provide timely logging of incidents.
- Drive the issuance of work permits and drive closure for hazardous tasks.
- To conduct inspection of forklift trucks and monitor the activities of the forklift operators.
- Drive the agenda on safety inspections of material handling equipment.
- Ensure safe warehouse stacking of materials and finished products pan Nigeria.
- Ensure conduct of toolbox talks and pep talks.
- To inspect all modifications and installation plant and equipment before commissioning.
- Drive the regular inspections and monitoring of the premises.
- Conduct safety inspection of equipment including machine safeguarding and portable electrical devices.
- Carry out audits to evaluate the effectiveness of Safety systems and procedures and identify and implement improvements.
- Monitor and inspect fire infrastructure facilities and ensure reliability in the event of a fire emergency.
- To Coordinate and Manage incident / Accident Investigation to determine root causes RCA, CAPA, FMEA and develop effective corrective and preventive Actions. Ensure all Corrective and Preventive Actions are completed on Schedule.
- ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000:2018 Internal Auditor and Food Safety team member.
- To undertake any other duties as required by management.
- To prepare periodic safety reports for informed Management decision.
Minimum Requirements
- A First Degree or its equivalent in any Occupational Health & Safety management related discipline.
- NISP, NEBOSH, IOSH, ASHI or any other recognised OSE certification.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment driving transformation
