The Akin Fadeyi Foundation (AFF) is a not-for-profit organization that works to combat corruption, tackle social injustice and promote integrity, transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s public and private sectors. Founded in 2016, the cornerstone of our work is using communications, media and technology to promote human and social capital in Nigeria and applying behavioral insights to the design and implementation of our various social justice initiatives to help combat corruption.

Job Description

  • We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic media and communication assistant to provide programmatic and administrative support to the AFF team.
  • In the role of Media and Communications Assistant, you will coordinate with the communications officer to plan and implement the organization’s daily communications activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders, media and the public.
  • Ultimately, your goal will be to help ensure clear communication of our organization’s vision and programmatic agenda. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Programme Officer – Legal and Communications.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Communications Officer, the Media and Communications Assistant will:

  • Assist with the implementation of AFF’s communication plans and strategies;
  • Create promotional and communication materials which involve brainstorming ideas and developing newsletters and other publications;
  • Prepare and distribute press releases, monitor media coverage, and attend both external and internal events;
  • Develop content for AFF’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other platforms as directed) and strategies to increase followership and engagement;
  • Respond to direct messages/comments on social media and monitor feed for relevant content development;
  • Edit and update AFF’s Editorial Calendar;
  • Develop simple graphics for social media using Canva Pro;
  • Collaborate with internal teams and maintain open communication with senior management;
  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders, media and the public.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc or equivalent in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • 1 year relevant work experience.
  • Experience in any of these areas will be an added advantage even above the selected course of study.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong functional knowledge of social media principles, practices, and the desire to apply that knowledge in a professional environment.
  • Solid research and editing skills.
  • Ability to work well and quickly under pressure both individually and as a part of a small, growth-oriented, entrepreneurial team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills with unparalleled attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management skills to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus.
