Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Medical Doctor

Job Location: Jega, Kebbi
Contract Period: Definite (3 Months) with possibility of extension.
Slots: 5 Openings


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.

Accountabilities

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention.
  • Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits , consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure General compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure bedside training of paramedical team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • To work in collaboration with the nurses to ensure medical care of quality.
  • To work as a team member, taking in consideration the non-medical problems the patients have to face (food and care problems etc.)

Context Specific Accountabilities
On admission:

  • To take complete history and fully examine all new cases during admission
  • To recognize, and immediately inform the NAM/MAM about the child in serious condition.
  • To refer non-malnourished children to MOH for further management.
  • To prescribe routine and basic treatment according to the protocols.
  • To completely and properly fill the admission card and the register during admission.
  • To give clear instructions to the nurses on the medical care and specific monitoring of the patient.

Monitoring of the patients:

  • To follow the patients daily and properly document all findings/changes made during round.
  • To conduct proper handing over of critical cases.
  • To estimate the medical evolution (improvement, deterioration etc.) and act accordingly.
  • To continue or change medical treatment according to the protocol and the condition of the patient.
  • To follow up and detect deteriorating cases during afternoon and night.
  • To do a quick late-afternoon round to be sure patients are OK for the night and the directives are done.
  • To decide, in collaboration with the nurse, on the transfer of the patient(s) to transition/ phase 2
  • To completely and properly fill the discharge card and the register during discharge.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
Education:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS).
  • Qualified and Registered national Medical Doctor from a recognized university with a valid practicing license from Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (after Internship). Previous experience in nutrition/ HIV/TB program, General Pediatric knowledge would be an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Hausa / Fulani language desirable
