Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is an indigenous non-governmental organization that promotes socio-economic development by supporting a broad range of global health interventions, education and economic initiatives in Nigeria. AHNi is an allied organization to Family Health International (FHI360) with co-existing and mutually supportive interest in advancing the collective goals of the people and communities we serve. AHNi currently has its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

Job Position: Senior Contracts and Grants Officer

Job Description

  • Work with the Managing Director and Chief of Party to provide lead administration for the management of awards and sub-awards including contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements. 
  • Monitor workflow and help develop and implement systems to provide sound management control over AHNi’s compliance with award terms and conditions and organizational policies.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with award terms and AHNi policy and provide support to grant and other AHNi staff to ensure that grant tools align with program needs.
  • Develop templates, provide guidance, and identify training needs to ensure AHNi grants functions are consistently applied across the program and in coordination with the global organization.
  • Collaborate on draft grant documents and provide general communications to the field on such matters. Interpret and apply funding regulations to ensure that all AHNi policies, procedures, procurement, and contracting requirements are met for sub-agreement and subcontracting activities working to ensure consistency of use across AHNi.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure that grant processes and related projects are efficient, monitored and executed in a timely manner. Provide input for grant policy and procedure revisions.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • BSc. in Business Administration, Accounting or related field and 7 – 9 years relevant experience or MSc. /MBA with 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in an NGO setting
  • Relevant software skills including spreadsheet and database software and Management Information Systems
  • Working knowledge of donor (USAID, CDC, DFID, Global Fund) contract and grant agencies required
  • Ability to interpret funding regulations and develop implementing procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of donor grants, contracting and auditing standards as they apply to the effective management of multi-year funds
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, budgeting and fiscal control theory and practices
  • Budget development skills with multi-funding sources and general ledger skills
  • Relevant software skills including automated accounting software and database spreadsheets and Management Information Systems
  • Work independently with initiative to manage high volume workflow, may structure work of staff members
  • Ability to work with scientific/technical personnel who may have little or no knowledge of fiscal control procedures and practices
  • Resourceful through technology, research skills, and relationship building among several organization teams and units and professional organizations
  • Interact with diplomacy and tact and follow up on requests in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintain confidentiality for sensitive issues or projects and use judgment and decision-making to execute duties and responsibilities
  • Perform detail-oriented work with a high level of accuracy
  • Has written and verbal communication skills.
