Purpose of the Job

  • The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is a strategic executive responsible for overseeing the financial health and performance of the organization.
  • The CFO will provide financial leadership, manage risk, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, risk management, and the ability to secure investments by leveraging strong networks in the financial industry.

Organization Expectations

  • You are expected to provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring the organization's financial health and stability, mitigating financial risks, and securing necessary investments to support business growth.
  • The CFO will also ensure compliance with all financial regulations and contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s long-term financial strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and growth targets in the real estate market.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: lead the preparation of comprehensive financial models, forecasts, and budgets, ensuring data-driven decision-making across the organization. In addition, provide regular variance analysis to adjust strategy when necessary.
  • Investment and Capital Management: oversee the company's investment portfolio, working closely with the CEO and Board to identify new investment opportunities. Additionally, build and nurture relationships with banks, private equity firms, and venture capitalists to secure funding for expansion or development projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensure full compliance with tax laws, regulatory requirements, and industry-specific accounting standards. Implement systems to maintain proper documentation and timely reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Financial Reporting: lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring they meet international financial reporting standards (IFRS). You are expected to provide in-depth financial analysis to inform executive decision-making and investor presentations.
  • Cost Management and Efficiency: analyze the organization's operational costs and implement cost-saving measures to improve profitability without compromising service quality or operational efficiency.
  • Investor Relations: serve as the primary point of contact for investors, financial partners, and stakeholders, and regularly provide updates on the company's financial performance, forecasts, and strategic initiatives to build trust and foster long-term relationships.
  • Risk Management: establish comprehensive financial risk management strategies, including the identification of market, credit, liquidity, and operational risks. In addition, develop and implement mitigation measures to safeguard the company’s financial health.
  • Treasury and Cash Flow Management: oversee the management of cash flow, ensuring the organization’s liquidity needs are met, optimize working capital, and implement effective cash management policies to support both short-term operations and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Debt Management: evaluate and manage the organization’s debt structure, working to optimize debt-to-equity ratios while minimizing interest expenses and maintaining healthy financial leverage.
  • Technology Integration: Partner with IT to implement financial management systems and business intelligence tools that streamline accounting processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve financial reporting efficiency.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A): Identify, evaluate, and negotiate mergers, acquisitions, or joint venture opportunities that align with the company’s strategic objectives as well as leading the financial due diligence process to assess potential synergies and risks.
  • Team Leadership and Development: manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team. In addition, ensure continuous professional development through training and performance evaluation to maintain an agile and skilled finance department.
  • Strategic Partnerships: act as a key liaison in negotiating and managing strategic partnerships with suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders in the real estate sector to drive financial performance and growth.
  • Tax Planning and Optimization: ensure effective tax strategies that minimize tax liabilities while remaining compliant with federal and state laws. Proactively seek opportunities for tax savings through a thorough understanding of real estate tax codes.
  • Sustainability and ESG Reporting: work with the leadership team to incorporate sustainability initiatives into financial planning and reporting, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors that are increasingly important to investors.
  • Crisis Management: provide financial leadership during economic downturns or organizational crises by implementing contingency plans, restructuring finances, or cutting costs to protect the organization’s financial integrity.

Educational Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's & Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in senior finance roles within the real estate industry.
  • Proven track record of financial leadership and success.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites and other relevant software.
  • Strong networks within the financial industry, with the ability to attract investors.
  • ICAN certification will be an additional advantage.
