- Determines ability of animal bodies to regenerate destroyed or damaged parts, and investigates possibility of transplanting organs and skin segments from one living body to another.
- Conducts research into basic laws of biological science to determine application to human medicine.
- Studies form and structure of animal bodies: Examines large organs and organ systems of body by systematic observation and dissection, and examines minute structure of organs, tissues, and cells, using microscope.
- Compares structure of one species with that of another.
