As a forward-thinking company, our footprint extends from cafes in Lagos and Abuja to our two arabica coffee farms, a cooperative of 141 farmers, and a dedicated roastery supplying premium coffee for both retail and B2B avenues.

Summary


  • The Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity and efficiency of Mai Shayi Coffee’s operations.
  • As a Chartered Accountant, the role requires a high level of accuracy, compliance with statutory requirements, and proactive financial management.
  • The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the company’s accounts, payroll, audits, asset management, tax compliance, and financial reporting while contributing to strategic cost reduction and efficiency initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping:

  • Receive, verify, and record all bills, invoices, and receipts.
  • Ensure timely entry of bills and expenses into the books of accounts.
  • Prepare approval notes for payment authorizations.
  • Maintain accurate journal entries, vouchers, and general ledger records.
  • Handle cash payments, issue and dispatch cheques, and oversee bank payments.
  • Manage staff advances, loans, and reconciliations.

Payroll & Employee Benefits:

  • Oversee monthly payroll preparation and ensure accuracy of statutory deductions.
  • Manage employee-related contributions and filings.
  • Ensure compliance with local labour, tax, and employee benefit regulations.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Support and respond to audit queries while ensuring compliance with statutory audits.
  • Manage Value Added Tax (VAT), Service Tax, and other statutory filings.
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and compliance with various governing acts.
  • Maintain a Fixed Asset Register and ensure accurate depreciation and asset management.

Budgeting & Cost Management:

  • Support the preparation of the company’s annual budget and forecasts.
  • Track financial performance against budgets, reporting variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Identify and drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality.
  • Develop and monitor accounting metrics to improve financial efficiency.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management:

  • Manage bank reconciliations, payments, and cash flows effectively.
  • Ensure proper handling of collections, deposits, and implementation of collection policies.
  • Oversee insurance requirements and ensure adequate coverage of company assets.

Operational & Strategic Support:

  • Support the Finance Manager and contribute to strategic financial decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Accounts Officer, Cashier, and other finance team members for seamless operations.
  • Provide accurate financial information for management decision-making.
  • Assist in managing intellectual property rights and other compliance-related matters.
  • Review and reconcile tours, travel, and expense statements.
  • Oversee inventory management and ensure proper accounting of stock.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Accountant (ICAN certification is mandatory).
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven accounting/finance experience, preferably in FMCG, retail, or hospitality.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, statutory requirements, and accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
