Description


  • The Dangote Group is looking for a Deputy General Manager, Operations (Power Plant) to oversee the operations of our Power Plant facilities. This role involves ensuring optimal performance, safety, and reliability of the power generation processes while leading a dedicated team of operational staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all operational activities of the gas-based power plant.
  • Ensure the plant operates within its designed parameters to achieve optimal efficiency and performance.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to meet production targets and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance schedules are strictly followed.
  • Monitor the condition of plant equipment and coordinate necessary repairs and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to reduce equipment failures and unplanned shutdowns.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
  • Promote collaboration and ensure effective communication across departments.
  • Analyze operational data to identify areas for efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
  • Implement advanced technologies and best practices to enhance plant performance.
  • Ensure all operations comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and training programs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operators, engineers, and support staff.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plant operations.
  • Prepare and manage the plant’s operational budget.
  • Monitor resource allocation to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Procure necessary resources and services while managing vendor relationships.
  • Develop and implement risk management and contingency plans.
  • Lead the response to operational emergencies to ensure minimal impact on plant performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and implement corrective actions.

Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 24 years of experience in power plant operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in managing Gas Turbine-based power plants is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of power plant processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Proficient in performance management and operational efficiency techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management software.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, and other plant control system.
