1.) Director, Learning Innovation (Digital Classroom Devices)

Job Location: Lagos

About the Role

• NewGlobe is embarking on a deep investigation of how to effectively integrate digital classroom devices (specifically teacher-facing technology like classroom projectors or mounted screens) into our existing instructional model. 
• Used effectively, technology can dramatically improve the quality of the teaching and learning experience. But used ineffectively, technology can be a distraction and ineffective use of resources.
• Unfortunately, education technology in low and middle income countries has often fallen into the latter category - a promising opportunity that is underutilised, often due to device management, lack of training, or the failure to seamlessly integrate the technology into a broader instructional vision for the school.

This role is a fixed-term role (lasting ~9 - 12 months). During this time, this role will focus on two core questions:

• How can we use digital classroom devices to enhance our existing instructional model (which uses teacher tablets to communicate teacher guides to each teacher)?
• How do we ensure that these devices can be managed logistically to ensure device health and security, seamless cross-teacher sharing, integration with technological systems, etc.

In order to answer these two foundational questions, this role will focus exclusively on four core areas:

• Design: create teacher guides and other instructional materials to support the use of digital classroom devices
• Plan: create a pilot plan that will allow you to evaluate whether the design and implementation has been successful
• Pilot: implement the new approach; fail-fast!
• Evaluate: analyse the data from the pilot; determine next steps in terms of design and planning.
• This will be a deeply iterative process that involves a dual focus on office-based design and planning, and also field-based piloting and evaluation. With this in mind, this role will spend roughly half of the time in schools, and half of the time in the office.

What You Will Do

• Design instructional materials necessary to support the integration of classroom digital devices into existing lesson structures
• Prepare pilots that allow us to test new materials, observe those materials, and iterate on our approach
• Observe pilot lessons in order to identify areas of growth, in terms of instructional design, teacher support, device management, and the broader technological issues that arise
• Collaborate with stakeholders in Technology and Software to inform device selection and software development necessary to ensure successful usage
• Collaborate with stakeholders in Academics and School Management to create strong systems for device management, teacher training, and broader integration into the academic programme
• Spend roughly half of your time in schools observing outcomes, and half of your time in the office creating pilot materials; this will include some domestic travel in Kenya and potentially international travel to other NewGlobe contexts in Rwanda and Nigeria
• Support the randomised evaluation of digital classroom devices through an RCT, which will inform whether the adopted model actually accelerates learning outcomes
• Deliver a blueprint for how digital classroom devices can be used effectively to drive learning gains; this includes both instructional and logistical considerations for success

2.) Proofreader, Instructional Design (Content Quality)

Job Description
Academics:

• The objective of the Academics group is to drive student achievement. To do so, we must know what is happening minute-by-minute for the typical child.
• The student’s daily experience, and thus the path to achievement, emerges from their relationship with the teachers and the content that is delivered in the classroom.
• Our team is collaboratively organised around these levers. We develop rigorous content pitched at the right level for students to be delivered by a teacher who is prepared to succeed in the classroom.
• Our Instructional Design department builds the content; our Leadership & Development department trains teachers and school leaders using scientifically-proven techniques; our Learning Innovation department looks at cutting-edge research to generate breakthrough learning gains.
• Underpinning all of this is the work of the independent Measurement and Evaluation group, which provides Academics with an empirical orientation toward improving that daily experience and, in turn, driving achievement.

Instructional Design:

• The Instructional Design department produces the learning materials that are used in our schools across our communities.
• This department has team members based in multiple Bridge support offices, organised into teams that each work on a portfolio of projects.
• Driving student achievement through the development of rigorous content is the number one priority.
• One core tenet of the approach is less lecture (traditional among many schools in our markets) and more student practice.
• Consistent, rigorous opportunities to refine his or her skills are crucial to a child’s learning progression.
• The Instructional Design department structures all lessons, textbooks, and other materials to ensure this.

About the Role

• The Instructional Design department seeks full-time proofreaders to join our globally distributed team. In this role, you will proofread instructional materials created by our globally distributed team, under the supervision of an Instructional Design team leader.
• This work supports our high-priority operations around the world, and so besides excellent proofreading skills, it requires flexibility, calm, and the ability to produce excellent work in a fast-paced environment.
• You are highly detail-oriented with a nuanced understanding of proofreading conventions; you’ve probably noticed several things in this posting that you’re itching to fix, but you also know when to let an inconsistency stand.
• You are a source of calm in stressful environments, unfazed by a change to the style guide or a sudden reordering of your priorities, and you can adjust easily to the unique requirements of a particular project.
• The Instructional Design team is located in Boston, Nairobi, Kigali, Lagos, and Hyderabad.
• This role is based in Lagos, but will very likely include remote collaboration with teams overseas.

• Proofread and correct daily lessons (“teacher guides”) electronically, directly in our CMS and in Word files
• Check answer keys and references to textbooks for accuracy
• Proofread other instructional materials, such as exams and textbooks, as assigned
• Maintain a highly organized system for tracking materials through the proofreading process
• Adhere exactly to specific formatting and delivery requirements, such as styling manuscripts and correcting filenames
• Provide feedback to supervisors and writers regarding the content you proofread
• Participate in ongoing training in instructional design and pedagogy

3.) Director, Academics, New Opportunities

Job Location: Lagos

About the Role

• The Academic Director for the New Opportunities group is responsible for the successful debut of all academic programming in a new territory.
• The inaugural cohort of schools in any territory could range from the 100s to the 1000s, and every single school must be prepared to deploy a world-class academic programme from Day 1.
• This work will include researching all aspects of standard academic programming in the new market, then working closely with Shared Services to develop the “Academic Plan” for the new programme, which details how our standard offering is adjusted so that learning might thrive in this new, particular context.
• This plan will cover course offerings, textbooks, assessment design, daily timetable, co-curriculars, and more. In this role, you are also responsible for initial technical consultation with government curriculum leaders. Eventually, you will hire your permanent replacement for this market, ensuring (s)he is set up to succeed even after you leave to begin work in another new market.

What You Will Do

• The New Opportunities Group Spearhead the debut of the entire academic programme in this new territory, leading all academic work that ensures the best possible learning experience for this new cohort of pupils
• Learn the status quo academic programme inside and out
• Conduct desk research to learn about the standard academic programme in the new market
• Conduct field research to gather initial data about teachers and student abilities in the new market
• Write the Academic Plan for the new market through thoughtful merging of the standard academic programme and the particular needs of the market
• Prepare and present detailed plans to the relevant government officials about our academic plan
• Collaborate with the Leadership & Development Director to ensure induction training appropriately addresses academic programme for both school leaders and teachers
• Hire and onboard the Academic Manager who will permanently take over the academic programme in the new market after you leave

• 10 years experience working in education, with 2+ in teaching; evidence of generating outsize student learning gains preferred

4.) Senior Officer, Finance

Job Location: Lagos

About the Role

• The Senior Officer, Finance holds an important finance & administrative of finance business unit at NewGlobe.
• This position is responsible for accuracy of inventory entry on NAV, physical inventory verification, booking and vetting vendor invoices, End of Month review, monthly tax filing and acting as finance business support.
• The Senior Officer Finance will report directly to the Controller, Finance.

What You Will Do

• Posting of transactions on Navision (daily expenses, Payable, receivables & and advance payments made to suppliers).
• Filings of tax return and remit all relevant taxes (PAYE, WHT and VAT) to the respective authority.
• Recognition of monthly revenue as per partnership invoices and fees collections
• Advise shared service team on the relevant account codes for proper posting of transaction.
• Review journals and prepare monthly, quarterly reports as well as manage correspondences with external auditors.
• Ensure that all inventory transaction are recorded accurately in the ERP system by coordinating inventory receipts and consumption activities.
• Reviewing purchase orders, GRN’s, e.t.c for accuracy and ensuring that they have been approved by the appropriate department head or manager.
• Verifying inventory counts and recording adjustments to inventory levels for items that have been used, damaged, or lost.
• Collaborate with Financial Managers and other team members to successfully execute various accounting tasks.
• Act as a finance support officer by guiding stakeholders and ensuring that all transaction are treated according to provision of finance policies, processes and procedures.

You Will Also:

• Develop financial and non-financial key performance indicators and the appropriate reporting to assess financial and operational performance across the region. 
• Ensure that systems and controls are in place to minimize and mitigate risk of fraud/leakage, as well as proactively audit key functions and accounts. 
• Support business expansion strategies by forecasting and assessing the financial impact of key decisions.
• Maintain budgetary oversight within the business units. 
• Manage the external audit process for financial statements; ensure that the Company is in compliance with internal policies and relevant regulations.

• Degree in a Business / Finance related field – e.g. Accounting. 
• Professional qualifications: ACA, ACCA, CIMA
• At least 4 years of experience within the finance unit of a medium size organization.
