Position Summary


  • The Managing Editor at Nairametrics is a strategic and pivotal role responsible for overseeing the editorial direction of the Nairametrics News Department.
  • This individual will lead daily news coverage across various domains, including the economy, markets, financial policies, and other areas critical to Nairametrics' audience.
  • The Managing Editor will ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and insightful news content, maintaining the highest journalistic standards and aligning with Nairametrics' mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Leadership: Set and guide the editorial direction of Nairametrics News Department, ensuring content aligns with the organization's objectives and audience interests.
  • News Coverage Oversight: Oversee daily news operations, including story selection, assignment, editing, and publication, across various platforms.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all content meets high standards of accuracy, clarity, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the news team, including writers, editors, and correspondents, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategies that enhance Nairametrics' market position and audience engagement.
  • Innovation and Growth: Identify opportunities for content innovation and audience growth, leveraging analytics and audience feedback.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with other departments, including marketing, research, and social media teams, to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to content creation and distribution.
  • Industry Trends and Standards: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging topics, and journalistic standards, applying best practices to Nairametrics' news operations.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Economics, Accounting or a related field is required.
  • Advanced Degrees or professional certifications in journalism, media management, research or related areas are preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Proven experience in a senior editorial role, preferably in a newsroom or digital media environment, with a track record of managing news coverage across multiple platforms.
  • Extensive experience in journalism, content creation, and editorial management, with a deep understanding of the economic and financial news landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of journalists and editors.
  • Experience with digital media strategies and audience engagement techniques.
