Job description

  • As the Quality Control Officer you are responsible for ensuring the adherence to quality standards and regulations in the processing and packaging of frozen chicken products within the abattoir, by monitoring production processes, conducting inspections, and implementing quality control measures to maintain product safety, integrity, and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of the abattoir facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP and GMP guidelines.
  • Monitor the handling, slaughtering, and processing of chickens to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform visual and sensory inspections of chicken carcasses, cuts, and packaged products to identify defects, abnormalities, or contamination.
  • Collect samples of chicken products at various stages of production for microbiological, chemical, and sensory analysis, coordinating with the laboratory for testing and analysis.
  • Investigate customer complaints, non-conformities, and quality issues, identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and preventing recurrence.
  • Collaborate with production, sanitation, and maintenance teams to address quality-related issues, implement process improvements, and maintain product quality and safety.
  • Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality control procedures, food safety practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments, providing documentation and support as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to food safety, quality assurance, and hygiene practices.
  • Monitor temperature controls and storage conditions in refrigerated areas to prevent microbial growth, spoilage, and contamination of frozen chicken products.
  • Conduct inspections of incoming raw materials, ingredients, and packaging materials to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of inspection findings, test results, corrective actions, and compliance documentation, ensuring traceability and accountability.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality assurance programs, policies, and procedures to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
  • Communicate with suppliers, customers, and regulatory authorities on quality-related matters, responding to inquiries, providing documentation, and addressing concerns.
  • Uphold the company's values and ethical standards, promoting a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement in all aspects of operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance, preferably in a poultry processing or food manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality management systems, such as HACCP, GMP, ISO, and BRC.
  • Familiarity with poultry processing operations, including slaughtering, evisceration, chilling, and packaging processes.
  • Understanding of microbiological, chemical, and sensory testing methods and techniques used in food analysis.
