Care Best Initiative (CBI) is a fast-growing, woman-led, and youth-driven Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2019 and presently operational in states within the North-East, Nigeria. Our objectives are to save lives, alleviate the suffering of children, women, and other vulnerable people, and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of man-made crises and natural disasters; as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations; and to promote the rights of children, women and vulnerable people in society. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Report Writer / Editor Consultant
Job Location: Abuja (FCT)

Responsible for: Documentation, Review and reporting all project activities.

Purpose of the Role

  • Using the data template provided by the CBI Nigeria, the individual consultant will copyright the text of the CBI Annual Reports ensuring accuracy, consistency and readability of message, charts, figures, graphs and other report components.
  • The consultant will be responsible for copywriting the narrative sections with a view to ensure: clarity and continuity and focus of the report; clarity of structure and consistency, both analytical and stylistic.
  • The consultant will concentrate on flow and clarity of text especially between text and tables, and figures and integration of text and boxes, content errors, style and punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • The consultant will ensure that the data used and referenced in the text are consistent with the data in the respective tables, figures, charts and maps, as well as with the indicator tables.
  • Based on the text provide, the consultant will recommend infographics for the Annual Report.

Copywriting:

Graphic Design and Design Layout:

  • To produce an attractive and creative layout for CBI’s 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Annual Report.
  • The consultant will propose three design layouts; one will be selected from three design concepts.
  • The appropriate placement of illustration such as maps, pie charts, tables, box items should be used as guided by the CBI Nigeria team.

Requirements
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
Education:

  • Master’s degree in public relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing with at least five (5) years’ experience.

Or

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in Public Relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing with at least seven (7) years experience.

Experience:

  • Sector Experience in one or more of: Health, Nutrition, GBV, SRH, Protection, Child Protection, or WASH.
  • Experience gathering and writing success stories, case studies, and human-interest stories directly from beneficiaries and community members.
  • Prior exposure to donor reporting requirements and use of indicator-based reporting in collaboration with MEAL teams.
  • Field-level understanding of humanitarian or development programming, especially in fragile contexts like northeast Nigeria.
  • Experience producing reports for international NGOs, UN agencies, or institutional donors.
  • Capacity to work across cross-functional teams (MEAL, Program, Communications) and coordinate report inputs from multiple field locations.

Skills (Special Training or Competence):
Functional Competencies:

  • Strong research and excellent writing skills?in English;
  • Proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
  • Experience in producing corporate products – specifically annual reports;
  • Knowledge of CBI’s terms, language and editorial style in line with CBI’s communication guide and policy;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in timely manners and under pressure
