Job Description
- We are looking for a meticulous and detail-oriented Copy Editor to join our team.
- The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of our editorial content, maintaining our brand's voice and style.
- This role is perfect for someone with a keen eye for detail, a passion for language, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- As the final content reviewer before publication, you will collaborate with the Content Editor, writers, and other team members to refine and perfect copy across a variety of mediums, including articles, social media, and marketing materials.
Responsibilities
- Content Accuracy & Research: Conduct thorough research to fact-check content, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant. Collaborate with subject matter experts or conduct interviews to verify information where necessary.
- Proofreading & Editing: Review and edit content at the final stages, ensuring it is error-free and polished. Implement edits based on feedback from senior editors. Refine copy to improve clarity, readability, and engagement, maintaining the integrity of the original text.
- Engagement & Style: Craft engaging copy that resonates with readers and enhances their experience. Adapt content for various platforms such as websites, blogs, newsletters, and social media, ensuring all copy aligns with the brand's editorial voice and identity.
- Trend Awareness: Stay updated on content trends, including emerging styles on popular social media platforms. Suggest innovative approaches to copy that boost engagement and keep the brand relevant.
- Collaborative Feedback Loop: Work closely with content editors and writers to ensure consistency in style and tone. Offer constructive feedback to help writers improve their skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in copy editing, preferably in media or publishing.
- Strong command of English, including grammar, punctuation, and style.
- Proven research skills with the ability to fact-check and ensure content accuracy.
- Experience with editing tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs) and content management systems (CMS).
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and the ability to edit for improved searchability.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of current social media trends and content formats.
- Ability to maintain brand voice consistency across platforms.
