We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: HSE Officer

Job Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time


Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management:

  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure the safe and effective use of construction equipment.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Monitor workers' adherence to safety protocols (PPE usage, safety barriers, etc.).
  • Prepare safety reports and investigate any incidents or accidents.
  • Conduct risk assessments for site activities and provide guidance on safe work methods.
  • Organize and conduct safety training and toolbox talks for workers.

Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure all operations comply with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Monitor waste management, pollution control, and environmental impact reduction initiatives.
  • Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and substances.
  • Promote sustainability practices on site.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure the company complies with local, national, and international HSE regulations and standards.
  • Assist in obtaining and renewing licenses and permits as required.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with the latest regulations.

Accident Prevention & Investigation:

  • Investigate accidents and near-misses to determine the cause and recommend corrective actions.
  • Keep track of safety statistics and trends to improve safety protocols.
  • Ensure that corrective actions are implemented and monitor their effectiveness.

Emergency Response Planning:

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans (for fire, evacuation, first aid, etc.).
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and training for all site workers.
  • Ensure emergency equipment (first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.) is readily available and in working condition.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain and update HSE records (inspection reports, training logs, accident reports, etc.).
  • Prepare reports for management on HSE performance and recommend improvements.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure HSE policies are followed.
  • Serve as a point of contact for all HSE-related inquiries.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in construction.
  • Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or other relevant certifications.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Proficient in report writing and HSE documentation.
