Job Position: Reporter

Job Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities


  • Gather Stories on behalf of News Central
  • Report and write news stories for publication or broadcast, describing the
  • background and details of events.
  • Provide breaking news content for the digital team
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about a story.
  • Work alongside correspondents and producers in story research.
  • Support field teams with in-house production.
  • Cover assigned reports and file packages
  • Engage in Live Reporting from News location.
  • Cover special reports/features as may be assigned
  • Research and analyze background information related to stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information.
  •  Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience, and attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social, and other functions.
  • Investigate breaking news developments such as disasters, crimes, and human-angle stories.
  • Field-producing opportunities.
  • Travel assignments for large breaking news events are possible. (Note: You could spend long periods of time in the elements-i.e., extreme heat/cold, rain, etc.)
  • Conduct Interviews for News and Digital.
  • You should have a front-row seat as history unfolds before your eyes.
  • Serve as in house analyst as the need arises.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
  • 5 years of producing with both field
  • Social media savvy.
  • Professional phone manners.
  • Strong code of ethics.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Outstanding news judgment, critical and strategic thinking, and an ability to be persistent yet diplomatic are critical for the position.
  • Must be able to work an extended schedule as the news cycle a
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong desire to work in the field and learn journalism from some of the best in the business.
