Job Description
- We are looking for a Senior Accountant to manage and oversee the financial operations of our company.
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, maintaining financial records, and providing timely and reliable financial information to support business decisions.
- The ideal candidate will also be responsible for financial forecasting and budgets, financial strategy, expenditure control, preparation of all financial reporting, Financial and management accounting, and handling tax and financial regulatory compliance.
- This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate financial information effectively.
Responsibilities
- Financial Operations and Control: Ensure accurate daily financial records and performance tracking, implement internal controls, and maintain data integrity while complying with local fiscal regulations.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepare and file timely tax reports, manage year-end accounts and audits, secure tax clearances, and provide cash flow forecasts for strategic planning.
- Treasury and Cash Management: Oversee vendor payments and cash management, monitor bank balances, conduct reconciliations, and negotiate banking relationships to support cash flow.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Present financial reports, interpret data on budgets and expenses, and develop strategies to mitigate financial risks.
- Policy and Procedure Management: Establish and update financial policies and procedures, continuously improving internal accounting systems to maintain integrity.
- Team Management and Development: Coordinate team efforts with clear expectations, monitor performance, and foster a positive work environment while staying updated on accounting technologies.
- Payroll and Taxation: Supervise payroll processing and tax deductions, ensuring compliance with PAYE and VAT while managing receivables and payables in line with cash flow.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate on budget preparation and compliance monitoring, analyze variances, and predict financial trends to inform strategic decisions.
- Strategic Contribution: Provide financial insights to support strategic goals and inform business decisions by analyzing reports and trends.
- Financial Planning and Risk Management: Develop long-term financial plans, evaluate and mitigate risks, and prepare financial models for strategic decision-making.
- Audit and Compliance: Facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring regulatory compliance and implementing process improvements based on audit recommendations.
- Miscellaneous: Represent the company on tax matters, participate in meetings, and collaborate with the MD on special projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance/accounting
- Professional Certification in Accounting such as ACCA, ICAN
- Work Experience in the Oil and Gas Sector is preferred.
- Strong Knowledge of the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS), and an understanding of double entries.
- Proven experience as a Senior Accountant in a small independent service provider company. Demonstrate a strong understanding of Nigerian Tax laws.
- In-depth knowledge of financial management and planning. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in the use of accounting software and programs such as Sage Software. Competencies:
- Excellent understanding of budget and financial processes, accounting principles, and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of the concept of accruals/prepayments.
- Strong knowledge of internal control principles, and operational risk evaluation.
- Excellent financial reconciliation skills and experience in managing time-bound rolling commitments.
- Superior analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent Verbal and written communication skills including excellent presentation skills.’
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain internal controls and handle sensitive and confidential data.
