PowerGen Renewable Energy is a micro-grid developer and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) solar projects in Africa. PowerGen is creating an African energy system that utilizes clean, renewable energy and smarter grids to deliver power to all.

Job Position: Senior Accountant

Purpose / Overview


  • As the Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day Finance Operations and overseeing the activities of the Accounting Associate.
  • Specifically, you will be responsible for management of cash flow and relationships with the banks, improving the accuracy of the NGBU company’s balance sheet, monthly variance analysis of the income statement budget vs actual, development of the annual operational budget and ensuring 100% tax compliance and zero payment of avoidable tax penalties.
  • You will have a solid reporting line to the Group Finance Manager with a dotted line to the Country Director.
  • You will also be required to work with the Group Financial Controller to implements process improvements within the Nigerian Finance operations.

You Will:

  • Develop and maintain an accurate 12-month rolling cash forecast by collaborating with all teams within the Company
  • Prepare and report on the monthly Statement of Profit or Loss, Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Financial Position for all the entities
  • Ensure that all month-end close activities are accurately conducted and a score of >90% is achieved in the monthly financial scorecards
  • Improve controls around cash, inventory, tax compliance and fixed assets by maintaining monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolving variances within 30 days.
  • Oversee day-to-day tax management and 100% tax compliance with statutory requirements for all NGBU taxes. Ensure all tax computations for applicable taxes filed with regulators are accurate and supported by reconciliations and source documents.
  • Manage and drive the annual external audit process to obtain signed audit reports for all entities on or before the end of Q1.
  • Process transactions on the ERP i.e. posting cash and bank expenses, creating bills, paying bills and ensuring that they meet the Company’s deadlines and standards.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with the Company’s Bankers and other external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate competence in speaking to the details of the financial activities and transactions within the business unit
  • Develop a professional training and growth path for the Finance Associate
  • Perform any other task as directed by the Group Finance Manager and Group Financial Controller

Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 7 years of work experience as an Accountant.
  • Extensive bookkeeping experience.
  • Good understanding of IFRS and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate your thoughts clearly.
  • Collaborative skills. Ability to work with other PowerGen team members to collectively solve problems and progress towards a common goal.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to engage and influence key internal and external stakeholders (board, committee, regulators, investors).
