We work across the world in the places where girls are marginalised and vulnerable. We create for young people in ways they love and interact with. And it's all delivered through the media and mobile tech they use every day – from apps that build skills, to TV dramas that explore vital issues, to magazines written by girls.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Position: Social Media & Communications Specialist (Individual Consultant)
Job Location: Lagos
Employment Type: 6 months contract
Report to: The Create Lead and Production Manager in Nigeria
Roles & Responsibilities:
Deploy social media strategies:
- Work with a copywriter and marketing team to develop and deploy social media strategies that will grow engagement and visibility for our brands. When necessary, adapt or put together basic copy or designs based on pre-existing templates.
Rollout Calendar:
- You will work closely with the create team to understand production timelines and briefs to maintain an active, agile rollout calendar for (Oya & Saabi) social media accounts across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube. Content should be planned and scheduled for upload a minimum of one week in advance.
Hygiene Management:
- Working closely with the Create team, you would regularly manage the hygiene on social media channels, ensuring sustainable grid design and identifying and implementing other best practices.
Support with Content Ideation:
- You will be expected to stay updated about viral trends to feed into and suggest creative ideas for posts relevant to our brand & pages across different formats - stories, reels, memes, and other established content buckets.
Uploading & Scheduling:
- You will upload and/or schedule posts as well as post regular stories based on the calendar you have created with regular approval from the Create Lead, who will be in charge of the work you do
Influencer Management:
- Assist marketing team during campaign execution with influencer, ensuring tags are in place, go-live time is adhered to, and all copy/content is approved.
Strategic Communications:
- Work with the Programs and Communications team to develop and implement strategies that support the country's programs and spotlights its achievements through social media, newsletters, blog posts, press releases and more.
Audience Engagement:
- Occasionally you will need to support the team with tasks related to audience engagement activities like basic content creation, curation for IG Lives, support in Live Sessions, AMAs on our channels, among other things.
Moderation:
- You will be required to diligently moderate comments, messages, and requests from our users to ensure that all our social media channels are safe and respectful spaces.
- You will work with our safeguarding team to flag and resolve any disclosures of abuse or harm from our users; suggest ways our safeguarding processes could be streamlined and improved, work with the content, gender and safeguarding team to manage and evolve a set of default or ‘canned’ responses to some of the most common questions we receive from girls on social, making sure that these responses are translated correctly etc.
- This is a critical part of the work because our users can sometimes be in vulnerable and risky situations, and the highest standards of ethics and responsibility have to be maintained on our end.
- You will also be required to maintain a moderation log documenting and tracking sensitive disclosures from our users.
Tracking & Reporting Metrics:
- Develop weekly and monthly reports, tracking social media metrics across platforms for each post in the template that will be provided to you.
- You will be expected to work with the Marketing Lead to analyze these metrics and trends on a fortnightly basis and present your findings of best performing assets to the create team, based on which new content will be planned.
Requirements
Who You Are:
Skills and expertise:
- Minimum 4 years of experience of relevant digital marketing with accounts that have had national or multi-regional scale and complex audience sets
- Graduate-level proficiency in marketing, branding, design or creative writing
- Comfortable with numbers, digital data sets like spreadsheets
- Degree or relevant experience in digital marketing, business, and project management.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media.
- Interest in working in a developing country context.
- Strong communication, writing, coordination and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Ability to remain flexible and find solutions to challenges.
- Positive, energetic, can-do attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural teams.
- Commitment to realizing the potential of girls and to the vision and values of Girl Effect
- Open to learning, for example, learning how to use RapidPro or capturing learning to enhance digital products and pages

Expected Commitment
- This is a part time consultancy role; four days a week for six months, with a possibility of extension.
- Consultant is expected to be available within the working hours, 9 am - 5 pm, Monday through Thursday.
- Consultant should be based in Lagos State, Nigeria.
- Consultants should be willing and able to travel locally if and when required.
- The consultant's assignment period is from April 2025 to September 2025.

- Supplier selection, contracting, and briefing: April 2025
- Project commencement: May 2025

- As part of your application, please include a link or PDF of your portfolio of recent work, highlighting your abilities and experience relevant to the role, with specific examples of how you work, think, collaborate, and contribute to great design outcomes.

- Credentials / CV
- Highlight work (if) done:
- In other geographies
- In health-related content with adolescent girls or young women, in other geographies.
- Reference- Provide at least three references for similar contracts with a description of the service provided and the contract periods of performance.
- Breakdown of Costs with applicable taxes and other charges clearly identified in Naira. Consultants should provide their daily, hourly billing rate and cost per deliverable rate.
- All applicable taxes should be quoted separately.
Note
- In the proposal, the bidder must demonstrate an understanding of the requirements described in the TOR and demonstrate how the bidder will meet the requirements of the evaluation criteria.
- Girl Effect is not liable for any cost incurred during the award/contract preparation, submission, or negotiation of the award/contract. All submitted documentation and/or materials shall become and remain the property of GE.
- Validity of the proposal shall be for 90 days from the date of bid closure.

Technical Evaluation:
- Interpretation and understanding of this TOR - 10%
- Portfolio - 25%
- Showcases relevant experience in having done previous similar work with relevant agencies or organizations - 15 %
- Demonstrates an understanding and knowledge of the comms within the geography of Nigeria- 10%
- Experience and Qualification, share your CV/Credential- 15 %
Financial Evaluation:
- Value for money/proposed budget breakdown - 25%
