Job Position: Transport Manager
Job Location: Lagos

Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Management:


  • Oversee daily transport operations across all depots, ensuring seamless distribution of petroleum products.
  • Develop and implement transport strategies to optimize delivery routes, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
  • Monitor and manage the performance, maintenance, and utilization of the company’s fleet of trucks and tankers.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) standards during product loading, movement, and offloading.
  • Schedule preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of fleet operations, fuel consumption, and product delivery reports.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all vehicles, drivers, and transport operations comply with DPR, NMDPRA, FRSC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce company safety policies and ensure all drivers undergo regular defensive driving and HSSE training.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits on fleet and drivers to guarantee safety and compliance.

People Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, and transport officers.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews and provide training to improve team productivity and efficiency.
  • Enforce discipline, punctuality, and adherence to company standards among transport personnel.

Logistics & Coordination:

  • Liaise with depot managers, marketers, and station managers to ensure timely product delivery.
  • Track and report daily truck movement, delivery turnaround time, and transport cost analysis.
  • Manage third-party transporters and ensure adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs).

Cost & Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage transport department budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and accountability.
  • Negotiate transport contracts and monitor expenses to maintain profitability.
  • Analyze operational data to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Fleet utilization rate and turnaround time.
  • Delivery accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reduction in downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Fuel efficiency and cost optimization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in transport/logistics management, preferably in the Oil & Gas (Downstream) sector.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport – CILT) will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of petroleum product distribution, fleet maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage large fleet operations and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
