Role Overview

  • We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our founding team. We are at a critical stage in our growth and have an urgent need for a Chief Financial Officer. Ideally, we want someone with previous startup and enterprise who has experience in all phases of the Financial execution process.
  • Africa is the world's youngest continent and expanding the fastest. The number of young people working in Africa will rise to 375 million by 2030.
  • The International Monetary Fund estimates that by 2035, there will be more young Africans joining the workforce each year than there are in the rest of the world put together due to population growth on the continent.
  • The number of young individuals looking for work is much higher than the number of opportunities that are open to them. The skills of young people entering the workforce and the needs of companies are also out of sync.
  • Many young people will have trouble finding employment to better their living conditions if nothing is done.
  • We have spent the last six months investigating the finest methods for creating the talent workflow system that will assist in matching African talents with opportunities. Currently, at the stage of executing the prototype system, business processes while some aspect is live in production to start generating revenue and Marketing.
  • We'll close the skills gap and provide African talent greater job chances.
  • The founders are individuals with top academic backgrounds, professional experience in leading companies at leadership positions & strong technical background.
  • The aim of the company is to become a “unicorn” (one-billion-dollar valuation) in the next 3-5 years as the product market is considerably validated.

  • The individuals who will be hired at this position will be given a significant amount of equity given that the company is at execution stage.
  • The person will be working fully remotely on a part-time basis while continuing their current job until we begin generating revenue and secure funding.

Description 

  • The Chief Financial Officer's role is to focus on establishing the strategic financial direction of the company. By developing processes to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), the CFO can help advise the executive leadership in making sounds financial decisions.
  • The CFO also develops and manages the overall financial services of the company including finance, budgets, and analysis to help the strategic direction of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Financial Services Department.
  • Contribute as a member of the Executive Management Team, providing long- and short-range goal-setting and strategic direction for the organization.
  • Guide financial decisions and protect assets by establishing key performance indicators as well as monitoring internal controls.
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with executive leadership to help develop budgets, and to provide access to project finance information.
  • Maximize return, and limit risk on cash by managing cash flow, reviewing investments.
  • Final review of budgets developed by financial team.
  • Oversee the completion of the final review and analysis of the financial statements/monthly reports prepared for management staff.
  • Prepare special reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing financial data, information, and trends.
  • Maintain department strength by managing and retaining employees.
  • Maintain results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining members of the financial services department, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of finance or accounting leadership experience
  • MBA or bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the corporate mission.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
