Job Position: Farm Supervisor 

Job Location: Abeokuta, Ogun
Employment Type: Full-time

About the role


  • The role is focused on the overall supervision of farms operations in our client's farm in Abeokuta, Ogun state. Your work will be centred around good standard of animal production system and management.
  • You will implement strategies for maximum yield, organise farm administration, supervise staff, create/develop the end market and customers. The role is target driven hence there'll be weekly and monthly target to meet up with.

Responsibilities
Farm management & Livestock production and management:

  • Plan finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters.
  • Undertake practical activities around the farms such as Livestock care, Feed formulation, farm management, machinery maintenance.
  • Buy supplies, such as feeds, feed ingredients, farm inputs and more
  • Maintain and monitor the quality of livestock yield through regular drug injection and weighting.
  • Ensure livestock are ready for the market at the proposed time.
  • Ensure that farm activities comply with good livestock management standard.
  • Monitor animal health and welfare, including liaising with vets and consultants.
  • Maintain knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.
  • Apply health and safety standards across the farms where necessary.
  • Keep financial records up to date.
  • Develop and document weekly and monthly reports accordingly to keep records.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers.
  • Identify opportunities for the advancement, progression and growth of the farm enterprise.
  • Develop avenues to reduces operational costs and optimise sales.
  • Develop and maintain a good feeding system that results in a great feed conversion ratio

Sales & Marketing:

  • Market the farm's products.
  • Ensure sales and profit targets are met timely.
  • Develop avenues to reduces operational costs and optimise sales.
  • Responsible for the servicing and relationship management of the existing customer base.
  • Communicate customer feedback and market insight to the company.

Working hours:

  • Monday – Friday; 7am - 5pm (Break included)
  • Saturday – Farm emergency and when needed

Qualification
Previous hands-on farming experience and technical knowledge are as important as academic qualifications.

  • However, a degree is greatly valued or HND/foundation degree in agriculture or a related subject such as:
    • Agricultural engineering
    • Agricultural economics
    • Animal management
    • Farm business management
    • Horticulture
    • Land/estate management.
    • Animal production
    • Animal nutrition
  • A minimum of 1 year work experience.

  • An understanding of the ways in which farming impacts the environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, at all levels
  • Commitment to achieving excellent customer service
  • Knowledge of Nigerian livestock industry and value-added market is desirable
