Job Position: Graphic Consultant

Job Location: Nigeria

Background

  • With more than 3 million people living with HIV, Nigeria has the second largest epidemic in the world, second only to South Africa. Female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWID) and their partners account for more than 30 percent of new infections, although they constitute 3.4 percent of the population. UNAIDS noted in its 2016 prevention gap report that in comparison to those in the general population, the odds of HIV infection were 24 times higher among PWID and MSM, and 10 times higher among sex workers. Consequently, the Government of Nigeria (GoN) identified FSW, MSM, and PWID as key populations (KPs) for the prevention of further spread of HIV in the country.
  • Condoms and water-based lubricants, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and HIV self-testing (HIVST) have been identified as highly effective and low-cost means of preventing HIV. However, availability, access, demand, and use of these preventive solutions among KPs are concerns to address to break the cycle of HIV infection. There is a huge gap between the annual condom needs in the country {estimated at 1 billion) and the current level of use (approximately 600 million), while there is an attendant need to upscale uptake of HIVST and PrEP as part of the comprehensive HIV prevention package recommended by WHO.
  • To address these gaps and meet these needs, a Total Market Approach (TMA) Is being implemented to increase demand, strategic distribution and marketing of condoms and water-based lubricants, HIVST and PrEP and increase HIV prevention-seeking behaviour among key populations. Keep it Safe and Sweet (KISS) is the project’s social media campaign designed and implemented to achieve these goals.
