Job Description

• Strivo Labs is seeking an experienced, analytical, and results-driven Head of Recovery to lead, strengthen, and scale the organisation’s credit recovery operations.
• This role requires a seasoned professional with strong operational discipline, financial acumen, team leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of credit risk, collections strategy, and portfolio recovery.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving end-to-end recovery performance, building innovative recovery systems, improving portfolio health, and ensuring strong compliance across all recovery activities.

Responsibilities
Recovery Strategy & Performance Management:

• Develop and implement the overall recovery strategy for delinquent and non-performing assets.
• Set performance targets, KPIs, and portfolio recovery goals across regions and teams.
• Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly recovery performance, ensuring targets are consistently met.
• Deploy segmentation strategies for different customer buckets to optimise recovery effectiveness.

Operations & Portfolio Management:

• Oversee the full recovery cycle including early-stage, late-stage, and legal collections.
• Implement risk-based collection models, repayment plans, restructuring arrangements, and field recovery strategies.
• Ensure accurate documentation, portfolio reconciliation, and robust reporting on recovery activities.
• Manage escalations, dispute resolutions, and complex customer cases.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management:

• Lead and manage in-house recovery officers, regional recovery leads, and field agents.
• Oversee external vendors, collection agencies, and legal recovery partners.
• Build capability within the recovery team through continuous training, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Ensure adherence to ethical recovery practices and organisational standards.

Risk, Compliance & Governance:

• Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
• Work with Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Risk teams to drive effective recovery outcomes.
• Mitigate fraud risks, identify early warning signals, and strengthen portfolio controls.
• Maintain accurate records, documentation trails, and audit-ready systems.

Reporting & Insights:

• Develop and maintain dashboards, MIS reports, and analytics to track portfolio performance.
• Provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership around delinquency trends, default risks, and operational gaps.
• Conduct root-cause analysis on loan losses and implement preventive controls.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Collaborate with Product, Credit Risk, Operations, Finance, and Customer Success teams to improve portfolio quality.
• Participate in strategy meetings and contribute to the development of credit policy and recovery frameworks.
• Build strong relationships with legal practitioners, field agents, and regulatory stakeholders.

Requirements

• 6 – 10 years of experience in credit recovery, collections management, or loan portfolio operations.
• Proven success leading large recovery teams and delivering strong portfolio performance.
• Experience in financial services, lending, microfinance, digital credit, banking, or asset financing.
• Strong understanding of collections systems, recovery workflows, and debt management tools.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Strong data analysis abilities and familiarity with BI tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.).
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
• Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
