Job Position: Backend Engineer

Abut the Role

• The Backend Engineer will help them design and build the foundation of their products which rely on a robust & delightful mobile-first consumer experience, backed by a complex backend, with a focus on video streaming and e-commerce.

Responsibilities
What do you need to be considered successful?

• Lead the design of & implement a scalable, stable, and maintainable backend architecture that can help the product to grow rapidly
• Lead decision-making for key technology choices (ex: Build vs. Buy, their choice of tech stack, frameworks & libraries).
• Write the core code that drives our experiences from API integrations to recommendations engine, and a whole lot more. Your work will balance deploying quickly with accuracy & scalability
• Recruit & build a strong engineering team as they scale
• Establishing a healthy engineering team culture. You & your early team will define Careerbuddy’s backend team culture and how we design, build, test, and ship.
• Work closely with the founders - they are passionate about what they’re building and bring experience in the African e-commerce ecosystem!

How Important are you to the bottom line?

• The quality of their product depends largely on your expertise. You will work with other engineers and decision-makers to determine the backend architecture of their product.

• You are comfortable with an early-stage startup and are eager to scale a young business
• You can prioritize and adjust tech investments with an eye to the short- and long-term
• You are a skilled communicator and can clearly communicate technical designs and trade-offs with technical and non-technical team members
• You are passionate about building world-class products for an African userbase

Requirements
What do you need to have done in your career?

• B.Sc Degree
• 4+ years of experience as a backend developer, with at least 3 years of experience with modern JavaScript backend frameworks (node.js, TypeScript)
• Experience working with AWS infrastructure
• Experience with microservices architecture and securely integrating 3rd party APIs.
• Relevant experience developing mobile/web applications.
