Job Position: Electrical Technician

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Summary

  • The Experienced Electrical Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience, strong diagnostic skills, and a solid understanding of industrial electrical components.
  • This role requires adherence to safety standards, effective communication, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to minimize operational downtime and maximize equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment, machinery, and control systems within the plant.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical issues, including problems with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), sensors, and control loops.
  • Install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, distribution panels, circuit breakers, transformers, electric motors, and other related components.
  • Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams to guide repair and installation work.
  • Ensure the reliable functioning of power distribution systems, including switchboards and control panels.
  • Conduct all work in strict compliance with safety regulations, electrical codes, and company policies, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Execute electrical tasks during shift operations and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to restore operations.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all maintenance work, including daily reports, spare parts used, and machine downtime.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians (mechanical, instrumentation) to ensure effective and timely completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Proactively identify and implement continuous improvement actions to address recurring issues and increase equipment efficiency and safety.
  • Provide electrical support for project work, equipment overhauls, and factory improvements.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Education: Higher National Diploma (HND) or Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. A relevant Trade Test Certificate is also a plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience as an Electrical Technician in a manufacturing, FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), or industrial environment.

Technical skills:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, and motor controls (AC/DC).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and automation issues using test equipment such as multimeters, ohmmeters, etc..
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and industrial control systems.
  • Solid understanding of safety procedures for electrical work.
  • Soft skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet production targets.
